THE National University of Singapore (NUS) is teaming up with Peking University to train professionals in financial engineering and quantitative finance who are needed as China develops as an economic power.
The two universities signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday, sealing their first collaboration in these sophisticated economic disciplines.
'The next couple of years will see financial markets opening up in China and greater demand for people with specialisation in financial engineering and quantitative finance,' said Ng Kah Hwa, director of NUS' Centre for Financial Engineering. 'Therefore it is timely for our two universities to work together in manpower training as well as to advance knowledge for the benefit of our economies.'
With China adopting Basel II, a banking risk management regulation, the universities foresee a big demand for financial professionals.
Four Masters students from Beijing arrive at NUS in August for internships.
