MA1301 Introductory Mathematics

Pre-requisite(s): Pass in O-level Additional Mathematics or AO-level Mathematics

Preclusion(s): Those with A-level passes in Mathematics or who have passed GM1101, GM1102, GM1306, GM1307, GM1308, MA1306, MPE students, FASS students of cohorts 1998, 1999 and 2000, FASS students from 2003 cohort onwards who major in Mathematics (for breadth requirement).

 

This module serves as a bridging module for students without 'A' - level mathematics.  Its aim is to equip students with appropriate mathematical knowledge and skill so as to prepare them for further study of mathematics-related disciplines. At the end of the course, students are expected to attain a level of proficiency in algebra and calculus equivalent to the GCE Advanced Level.

 

Major topics: Sets and functions. Polynomials. Inequalities. Arithmetic and geometric series. Binomial theorem. Induction. Trigonometry. Complex numbers. Limits. Differentiation and applications. Maclaurin's series.  Integration and applications. First-order ordinary differential equations.
