This programme is specially designed for a select group of
students who have a strong passion and aptitude for the
mathematical sciences.
The programme consists of a number of
specially designed modules ("S-modules") in
foundational mathematics, which are taught in much greater
depth and sophistication than their regular versions. In
addition and under the close mentorship of faculty members, students
participate in two semesters of undergraduate seminars in the form of
topic modules.
Participants of the SPM have enhanced opportunities for
undergraduate research programmes locally and overseas, as
well as graduate programmes at the Department of Mathematics
in NUS.
Through SPM,
students will build a firm foundation to pursue graduate
programmes and future careers in the mathematical sciences.

(Updated 19/2/2009)
Students who have
passed (or have been exempted from) MA1101R and MA1102R
with very good grades are welcome to apply. All
applicants will be further assessed through interviews.
Selected students will be enrolled in the SPM in the
second semester of their first
year or the first semester of their second year.
Participants
of the SPM should generally be majoring in Mathematics
or Applied Mathematics, though strong students majoring
in Quantitative Finance, Statistics, Physics and
Computer Science are also welcome to apply. In order to
complete the SPM, a participant should pass
following five S modules and complete two undergraduate
topic modules.
The five
S-modules are:
-
MA2101S Linear
Algebra II (S)
-
MA2108S
Mathematical Analysis I (S)
-
MA2202S Algebra I
(S)
-
MA3110S
Mathematical Analysis II (S)
-
MA3111S Complex
Analysis I (S)
The two undergraduate
topic
modules are:

When did SPM start?
The programme started admitting students since December 2005.
Can I read S-modules
without enrolling in SPM?
Yes, you
may read S-modules without being admitted to SPM but the same application
and approval procedure (for SPM) applies.
I intend to
read my first S-module next semester. Can I sign up for SPM
this semester?
No. A student
enrolls in SPM by signing up for his/her first S-module.
Do I
attend the same classes as students reading non-S-modules?
No. Students reading S-modules attend
separate lectures, tutorials and exams from students reading
non-S-modules.
Is there a study plan
for me to refer to?
Click here for sample study plan.

Application typically closes at 5pm on the Monday of week 1
(academic calendar) in a semester.
