Important Notes

  1. Click on the module code in the table below to the view module description.

  2. Information on this page is the most updated, with the latest amendments marked in red.

  3. This list is subject to change without prior notice. Students should check this page for updates especially closer to module registration period.

  4. An * next to a staff's name denotes that he/she is the coordinator for that module.

  5. An ^ next to a module title indicates that it is a new module from that AY.

  6. Due to curriculum structure, demand and manpower constraints, not all modules can or will be offered in either semester even if they are listed.

  7. Except for project-based modules, undergraduate modules (QF/CZ/MA1xxx-4xxx) require a minimum enrolment of 5 students, and graduate modules (MA5xxx-6xxx) require a minimum enrolment of 3. If the enrolment falls short of these numbers, the department reserves the right not to remove the affected module/s.

  8. S-modules are not opened for bidding in CORS. Students who are keen to read them are required to submit applications for SPM/S-modules

  9. Selected MA5xxx modules are opened for bidding in CORS but with limited vacancies.

  10. CS1231 is offered by School of Computing but taught by mathematics department in one of the semesters.

  11. QF5xxx modules are offered exclusively to students reading M.Sc. in Quantitative Finance.

Module Planning Tool

Students (especially undergraduates) may use this tool to help them with module planning. It lists the prerequisite and preclusion of a module, and other modules which use it as prerequisite.

The information for this tool is updated near the start of a new academic year to ensure that all changes, if any, are reflected. Students are advised to refer to this tool again nearer bidding time for more accuracy.

Module Registration

Undergraduates register for modules using the Central Online Registration System (CORS).

Graduate students register for modules with a different online system:

  • Students pursuing M.Sc./Ph.D. by research and M.Sc. in Mathematics by Coursework will generally register for/add and drop modules online. Please adhere to the stipulated deadlines.

  • Students pursuing M.Sc. in Quantitative Finance by Coursework will register for/add modules manually with a form but drop modules online. Please adhere to the stipulated deadlines.

Students on exchange programme in NUS will have pre-approved modules registered for them by the Registrar's Office. They may also apply for additional modules online in the beginning of a semester. They should consult the Registrar's Office for details and schedule.

Tutorial Registration

(The guidelines below apply to modules offered by mathematics department)

Undergraduates will ballot for tutorials and lab sessions online via CORS unless otherwise instructed.

Graduates who are reading undergraduate modules would have to manually register for tutorials (of undergraduate modules) with the module lecturer. Alternatively, they may email their requests to AskMathUG@nus.edu.sg.

Other students (e.g. exchange programme, non-graduating programme, NUS High School, JC students reading H3 modules) will follow the same registration procedure as the graduates.

Timetable

All lectures begin from week 1 (university calendar). Note that there is an Orientation Week (week 0) in semester 1 and no classes are held in that week.

Tutorials and lab sessions for math modules begin from week 3.

Changes in class and examination timetables are disallowed as revisions may affect a larger community. Students should (and are responsible to) ensure they do not read modules with clashing class and examination timetables.

Due to various constraints in scheduling evening classes, part-time graduate students may have to make their own arrangements to attend day-time classes, which may include taking leave from their employers on a regular basis.
