Overview
The
purpose of the recommended combinations is to help students (especially
freshmen) to better plan their studies. Students may plan a different
combination, depending on their personal interest and circumstances. We
remark that
-
It is
the responsibility of the student to ensure that the graduation requirement
applicable to his/her cohort will be satisfied.
-
Modules
offered by the Department of Mathematics may vary from year to year.
It is therefore in the interest of the students to have several options
for his/her study plans.
-
Students
with good mathematics background and students with average mathematics
background may want to proceed differently in terms of study schedules.
We give four
sample
schedules (Updated 30/6/08), with examples A and C slower and examples B and D faster
in pace.
-
Students
are advised to have some understanding of the prerequisite of modules
he/she wants to read, and to pay due attention to those modules which
are prerequisites of other modules in later studies. This is especially
important for students intending to do honours.

Faculty Requirements
Students reading MA (mathematics) or AM
(applied mathematics) major may fulfil faculty requirements using modules
from any three of these subject groups: Computing Sciences, Chemical
Sciences, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences.
Students reading CF (computational finance) or
QF (quantitative finance) major may fulfil faculty requirements using
modules from these three subject groups: Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences
and Physical Sciences. In other words, modules under Computing Sciences
subject group are not considered as outside major courses for these
students.

Module Planning Tool
Students may use the list at
http://ww1.math.nus.edu.sg/moduleinfo to help them with module
planning. It displays the prerequisite and preclusion of each module, and
the modules that they serve as prerequisite to.
